Issue #5·November 1, 2026·Nov 1 – 14

The pumpkins are gone, the clocks went back an hour on Sunday, and it's dark by the time most of us pull into the driveway. That's the stretch of the year when a plan for Friday night actually helps.

Downtown has one on the 6th, the Cascade has two good nights, and the Saturday farmers market keeps going all winter, just an hour later now. Here's what's on through November 14. Every listing links straight to its source, so you can check times and prices yourself.

Shasta Dam and the lake

Fifteen minutes up I-5 and you're at the Shasta Dam visitor center. The dam is 602 feet tall and was finished in 1945, and the free guided tour takes you 400 feet down by elevator and out past the spillway and the powerplant.

Tours run Friday through Tuesday, 8 to 4, twenty people at a time, with tickets handed out at the visitor center an hour ahead, so get there early. On the other days you can still walk across the top and see the exhibits.

By fall the lake has dropped and you can see the bathtub ring on the hills, which is its own kind of interesting. If you want a longer day, the Lake Shasta Caverns tour stays about 58 degrees inside no matter what the weather does.

Good to Know

Market Minute

In October, the median Redding home sold for $375,000 after 66 days on the market. Across Shasta County, the median was $370,500 and 69 days. About 340 homes are for sale in Redding (about 620 countywide), roughly three months' worth at the current pace. At that pace, buyers have time to look before they decide. These figures cover houses and manufactured homes on owned land, and don't include mobile homes in parks.
