Get Outside
Lassen Volcanic National Park
About an hour from Redding up Highway 44 to the north entrance. Start with the flat 1.5-mile loop around Manzanita Lake while it's cool, then drive the park road south to Sulphur Works and the roughly 3-mile round trip to the mud pots at Bumpass Hell. The road only stays open from about late June through October, so this is the window. $30 per vehicle, cards only.

- Burn permits are still off. CAL FIRE suspended residential burn permits across Shasta and eastern Trinity counties on June 15, and the suspension is still in place. That yard-debris pile waits until they come back. The county air district posts the daily burn status if you need to check first.
Check today's burn status · Shasta County Air Quality Management District → - Lassen closes for the winter. The main park road shuts once heavy snow arrives, and it doesn't reopen until the spring clearing. If a Lassen day is on your list, go this fall, and check the Park Service's conditions page the morning you drive up.

Market Minute
The median Redding home sold for $402,000 in August, and the typical home took about 65 days to sell. There are about 345 homes for sale in Redding, roughly 2.6 months' worth at the current pace. That still tilts toward sellers, so if you're buying, a well-priced home won't sit long.
